EPISODE K-404 FOR THE GOOD OF THE OUTFIT - by Jeny Mayer Hawkeye and Trapper operate on some South Korean villagers whose village has been destroyed by North Korean artillery. Both know there is no enemy artillery within miles of the village and conclude that a U.S. unit shelled the village. They identify the shrapnel taken from the patients as American and insist that Blake report the shelling to high authorities. Blake doesn't want to rock the boat and warns Hawkeye and Trapper that they are asking for trouble. They fill out the forms reporting their findings and ask Frank to sign it with them but he refuses. A few days later Major Stoner arrives to investigate the charges. Hawkeye is suspicious, but Stoner tells him he's anxious that the truth be told. Hawkeye gives Stoner all the evidence. Frank decides to file his own report, but soon learns that the village has been bombed by the enemy, according to "Stars and Stripes." Hawkeye feels betrayed and calls Stoner who tells him that the story broke when he was in Okinawa. General Clayton arrives a few days later to explain the situation and tells Hawkeye and Trapper to play ball or get transferred to a front line unit. They realize that they have no choice, since Stoner has the evidence. Just then, Frank and Hot Lips show up with their own evidence and reports. Clayton is on the spot and agrees to have the truth printed in "Stars and Stripes." Hawkeye and Trapper are to write the article, proving the adage that the truth will out.
