EPISODE K-408 THE TRIAL OF HENRY BLAKE - by McLean Stevenson and Larry Gelbart and Laurence Marks Henry Blake and Radar are summoned to Regimental Headquarters, leaving Frank Burns in charge. At Headquarters they meet with a hearing board to answer charges filed by Frank and Hot Lips claiming Henry is unfit for command. The first charge claims that gurney races were held at the 4077th on Kentucky Derby Day. Henry doesn't deny it, but says Hot Lips and Frank were playing their own games behind the mess. The second charge concerns Radar moonlighting as a shoe salesman. Radar admits to being in the mail-order shoe business. A third charge involves Klinger's attempts to get out of the Army, the latest using a homemade hang-glider. Radar is sent back to the unit, while Henry is placed under arrest. Back at M*A*S*H, with Frank in command, the whole camp is policed. Radar explains Henry's predicament to Hawkeye and Trapper, with the most serious charge being offering aid and comfort to the enemy. Henry gave medical supplies to an elderly nurse who runs a clinic across the 38th parallel. Hawkeye and Trapper decide to help Henry, but Frank puts them under house arrest. They enlist Klinger's help and escape, bringing Nurse Cratty to testify on Henry's behalf. The board wants to dismiss the charges, but Hot Lips and Frank refuse to withdraw them. Hawkeye threatens to tell Mrs. Burns about Hot Lips and Henry returns to the camp in triumph.
