Hawkeye's three-month request for a new pair of boots has not come through. Trapper suggests he lean on Sgt. Zale, the supply sergeant. Zale badly needs dental work and will get Hawkeye a pair of boots if he’ll talk to Capt. Futterman, the dentist. Futterman suggests he'd be willing to see Zale if Hawkeye can get him a three-day pass to Tokyo. Hawkeye and Trapper see Henry for the pass, but Henry's upset because Hot Lips is drafting a nasty report for a general. If they get Hot Lips off his back, he'll give Futterman the pass. Hot Lips, determined to send the report, is willing to make a deal. She'll forget the report if they throw a birthday party for Frank, complete with cake and at least twenty guests and presents. Since Hawkeye and Trapper aren't on good terms with the cook, Radar will intercede if they get him a date with Lt. Murphy. She agrees to the date if Radar brings a hair dryer. Klinger has the only one on the base, and they make a deal with him in exchange for Hot Lips' and Frank's signatures on papers enabling Klinger to be discharged. The surprise party is held, overwhelming Frank. Futterman get his pass and makes an appointment with Zale while Radar slips out to meet his date. Hot Lips and Frank refuse to sign Klinger's papers. Klinger gets mad and takes back the hair dryer. Murphy throws Radar out of her tent. Radar retrieves the cake and Hot Lips tells Henry she's filing the report. Henry tears up Futterman's pass and Futterman cancels Zale's dental appointment. Hawkeye tries putting on a 10 1/2 C golf bag.
