EPISODE K-422 GEORGE - by Regier and Markowitz Major Frank Bums, assisted by Hot Lips, examines the patients in post-op and it's clear that he is ready to send them back into combat, whether they are ready or not. Frank moves to the bedside of Pvt. George Weston, a soldier he and Hawkeye operated on. Weston has been wounded several times and in Frank's book, this makes him a real fighting man. But Frank notices Weston's many bruises and feels he should be reprimanded for fighting. A few days later, Weston, hobbling with a cane, asks Hawkeye to send him back to combat. Asked about the bruises, he says two men in this outfit were beaten by the others — one Black and the other a homosexual. Hawkeye commends him for being willing to go back to the outfit that gave him a bad time and promises not to reveal their conversation. Frank tells Hawkeye and Trapper that Weston is gay but they warn him not to cause Weston to receive a dishonorable discharge. To stop Frank, Hawkeye and Trapper pretend they've had a falling out since Trapper sides with Frank over Weston. Hawkeye insults Trapper, who confesses he paid $100 for the answers to his first year medical exams. Frank then confesses he paid $400 and Hawkeye tells him that could earn him a dishonorable discharge from medicine. Hawkeye convinces Frank that everyone has something to hide, and Frank tears up his report.
