EPISODE B-306 O.R. - by Larry Gelbart and Laurence Marks The wounded arrive by helicopter, ambulance and jeep, and soon O.R. is running at top capacity, while jets scream overhead and artillery booms uncomfortably nearby. Everyone at M*A*S*H is called into action while Hawkeye, Trapper and Henry work at top speed. At one point Blake drops his instruments, catching Hawkeye's attention. Hawkeye diagnoses incipient arthritis. It could be a ticket home. Father Mulcahy is called in to take a letter from one of the patients about to undergo surgery. He wants to confess to his wife about his amorous escapades, but Trapper signals Mulcahy not to send the letter since the patient will recover. Hawkeye is told his patient's heart stopped and when all other methods fail, he opens his chest and massages his heart while all look on admiringly. Meanwhile the bombing goes on, supplies run low and the lights dim. Someone smells smoke and an electrical fire is discovered. Quickly, explosives such as oxygen are removed. Hawkeye learns his resuscitated patient has died in post-op. He blames himself for not staying with him. but then he was needed in O.R. Trapper, grabbing a big irrigation syringe, douses the fire while Frank and Hot Lips carp at him — the fluid might have been alcohol.
