EPISODE B-317 MAD DOGS AND SERVICEMEN - by Linda Bloodworth and Mary Kay Place Hawkeye notices a scratch on the back of Radar's hand and learns he was bitten by a dog. Hawkeye advises Radar to find the dog so they can test it for rabies. A large number of casualties are brought in from a battle with a herd of tanks. One of them, Travis, is paralyzed, but has no apparent injuries. Hawkeye and Trapper decide to keep him under observation. Travis tells them all he can remember is blacking out during the attack and waking up paralyzed. Radar, with Henry's help, starts looking for the dog. Hawkeye consults a psychiatrist who advises that Travis be left alone—not fed or washed or anything that would favor his helplessness. Hot Lips is outraged and thinks Hawkeye is a beast. Rosie, the proprietress of a bar, tells Henry and Radar she thinks the dog they're looking for was eaten for dinner. Then it turns out it wasn't the same dog. Henry starts Radar on rabies treatments, getting him feverish. While Hawkeye and Trapper play scrabble, Frank rushes in to tell them Travis is crawling to the mess tent. It’s a disgrace. Hawkeye tells Frank the treatment was ordered by the psychiatrist whose theory is that if a patient with hysterical paralysis is treated as though he were actually paralyzed, he will become so. Hawkeye sends Rosie to talk to Travis about the battle and he begins to open up. The missing dog is found and tests out okay. Radar is taken off the rabies treatments, and comes out of his delirium.
