Col. Henry Blake has left the 4077 and Frank Burns relishes the time when he will become the new commanding officer. Hawkeye builds a bar in the Swamp with the help of his new tentmate B.J. Hunnicutt. Radar arrives to inform them that they have a new Commanding Officer - Col. Sherman Potter, an Army career man. When Radar tells Frank in the mess tent, he handles it well, then dashes over to Hot Lips' tent where he cries and stamps his feet. Radar is sunbathing when Potter arrives with his gear and his saddle. He was once in the Cavalry and proceeds to decorate his office with pictures of his horses. Klinger is his first visitor, but Potter isn't fooled for a minute by his gown and earrings. He's seen such dodges for forty years. The next morning he calls his staff together to explain that he has 18 months left before retirement and doesn't plan to do the last mile on a muddy track. He advises Hawkeye to keep his nose clean. Later in surgery, Potter who hasn't operated in two years, shows he's an able surgeon. Even better, he joins Hawkeye at the Swamp to sample his home brew. The next morning Potter is showing Hawkeye some horse pictures when Klinger arrives in a dress. "Nice outfit, Klinger," Potter remarks.
