Hawkeye is traveling alone in a Jeep when he comes upon some children in the road. To avoid hitting them. he overturns the Jeep, injuring himself. He manages to get to a nearby farmhouse where, in one room, there are an old man, an old woman, and a young woman and some children - none of them able to understand English. Fortunately, he knows a word of Korean - the name of the community where the 4077th is located, Ouijongbu. He manages, in spite of a serious head injury, to write a message for the older girl to take to the encampment. Aware he's had a concussion and that to lapse into unconsciousness could deteriorate his condition, Hawkeye starts to talk, saying whatever comes into his head. The Koreans boil water for him to drink, offer him some of their food, and listen patiently as he babbles on about college, medical school, old friends, old girls, his childhood, whatever comes to mind. He sings a bit and talks about his work, until finally the magic moment comes - it's Radar, rescuing him in a Jeep. Hawkeye is fully recovered when he comes back to visit the farmhouse, bringing presents for the kind people there who helped him by listening when he was in danger of lapsing into unconsciousness.
