EPISODE G-523 THE NOVOCAINE MUTINY - by Burt Prelutsky Hawkeye, B.J., Radar and Potter, in dress uniforms, sit in a military courtroom before Col. Carmichael where Hawkeye has been accused of mutiny by Frank when he was temporary commanding officer. The story begins when Potter left for six days R & R in Tokyo. B.J. says Frank tried to recreate the 4077th in his own weird image. First he had the whole camp move across the road, to prove how mobile it was, then to move back. Then he ordered cold showers, calisthenics, parades, retreats and snap inspection. Frank takes the stand and tells Carmichael he was a tower of strength in the operating room while it was under constant barrage. Nurse Fox expressed her admiration for his strength and courage. When type B blood ran out, Frank hooked himself up to the patient and gave his own. Finally, it was Hawkeye who broke. He grabbed a syringe and jabbed Frank, knocking him out and crying: "I'm taking over." Hawkeye's version is a little different. There was no heavy barrage. Hawkeye and B.J. were operating alone without Frank. Hawkeye tells Frank when he shows up to either help the wounded or be in danger of becoming one. As Frank walks away he runs into an open door and is knocked out. Carmichael's decision minces no words. Hawkeye is a prankster and unmilitary, but a top-flight surgeon. But, he says, if Frank hadn't been drafted as a doctor he'd have been assigned as a pastry chef. CAST Hawkeye Pierce Alan Alda B.J. Hunnicut Mike Farrell Col.
